Finally saw "The Way"
I’ve wanted to see it since hearing Emilio & Martin on Fresh Air. Because I like to weep uncontrollably multiple times on a plane next to strangers. When are we walking El Camino de Santiago de Compostela? Seriously. I’m IN.

Favorite Conversation of the Night
My 8-yr-old Nephew: Julia [his 4-yr-old sister] MET Santa Claus at the Mall! Me: Really? Nice. How come you didn’t? Nephew: I was at the Stone Pony. Me: Trust me. That’s cooler.

Why I Could Never Live Alone
Having just gone 1 night of laying in bed completely alone in the house followed by a full day of silence in the company of ME, tonight I offered myself as a passenger in a car ride all the way to Corona to purchase a 20-dollar bootleg copy of Rosetta Stone (Spain Spanish). These are the lengths I go for actual human connections. I had just played 1 mandolin song (the only one I know…), read...

Last Day in L.A. for 18 Days
Slept in, no job to go to, large cafe con leche + bacon, egg & cheese from Tropicale. Is it Christmas morning already? …Maybe I should also mention that I’d only changed out my pajama pants and slippers for jeans and converse to stumble down there, where I ran into a guy I met in a bar recently as I patted down my bed hair while simultaneously pulling my jacket closed so as not to...

Hitchens
From Slate’s article tonight: “I do, still, try to nurture that little flame of curiosity and defiance: willing to play out the string to the end and wishing to be spared nothing that properly belongs to a life span,” he wrote. You can find his Slate columns here, his Vanity Fair pieces here, and his Atlantic work here.

Ugh, I'm sad Christopher Hitchens died.
I  foolishly (but knowingly) allowed myself not to think realistically but instead optimistically that we wouldn’t lose this thinker, writer, arguer to the cancer so obviously taking him. And so it goes.  I was more than lucky to have had the same foolish optimism work in my favor a decade ago, so I’ll also be thankful (and always bewildered) while saddened by this news.

Tahoe Ski Weekend Winter 2012
I got a free Southwest flight to use by March, and Reno is nonstop. Let’s blow some dough and sit drinking cocktails in hot tubs on top of snowy mountains. Who’s in?

Perform Your Ringtone as a Voicemail Message
Hey everyone. This person is an Integrated Media Arts MFA student at Hunter College - like I used to be! So help her out - I feel like Tumblr is the right crowd for this: — Subject: Sound project help! Call me and sing your ringtone! Hi folks, I know we’re all pretty much in the finals crunch, but if you are looking for a study break activity, I am hoping you’ll consider doing...

Treasuring Urban Oases →
I’ve been catching up on last week’s paper, including this article about the how and why and what of valuable outdoor public space in cities, specifically talked about while wandering through New York.  “…and could yet redeem New York’s most ignominious failure to safeguard the public realm, Penn Station. Creative redesign (turn 33rd Street between Seventh and Eighth...

Facebook Hiding 'Other' Messages From You
Just read this Slate article about a woman who didn’t know that someone had found her laptop in a cab and was trying to contact/help her by writing to her on Facebook, because Facebook effectively hid the message in this ‘Other’ folder that only appears when you click on ‘Messages.’ So I just clicked on MY ‘Other’ messages and found this from November...

You know how sometimes you get bummed when you find out some celebrity has a significant other, because maybe you had a chance that’s now dashed (which you ultimately know is bullshit)? I just seriously searched the words “married” and “girlfriend” on a guy’s Wikipedia page.  As if I’ll ever wind up with someone who even has his own Wikipedia page.

As mentioned in this old post, I love Alan Lomax and want to be him. And I love this music, this history, and these stories.

I'm About to Blow Up Your Dashboard
I just realized I had 6 Posts in my Drafts folder. I guess they were unfinished or I thought I’d add something brilliant given more time, or I thought they might be lame and I’d reconsider? I don’t know, but it’s time to clean house.  HERE I GO.

Punch Brothers moved their show from March 9th to March 10th, and I can’t make it that night. I’ll sell them to anyone who wants them today, otherwise I’ll get a refund from Ticketmaster.  This is really gonna set back my wedding date with Chris Thile. Sadface.
