I  foolishly (but knowingly) allowed myself not to think realistically but instead optimistically that we wouldn’t lose this thinker, writer, arguer to the cancer so obviously taking him. And so it goes. 
I was more than lucky to have had the same foolish optimism work in my favor a decade ago, so I’ll also be thankful (and always bewildered) while saddened by this news.
